LAST YEAR I discovered an app that has saved me almost £50 on my mobile bills.

It’s so good that some months I’ve had to pay nothing at all to my network.

I've made well over £50 from Airtime Rewards which has paid for my phone bill

The app is called Airtime Rewards.

It’s been around for a while now but I’m discovering some people who don’t know about it still – even with the cost of living crisis.

It’s basically a cashback app that detects when you’ve spent at certain retailers with your bank card.

Except there’s a lot more to it than that.

Here’s how I’ve saved the most amount of money possible.

What is Airtime Rewards?

Airtime Rewards is a cashback service that links up to your mobile network.

When you reach a certain amount you can use it to knock money off your network charges – and even get some months free.

Add the Visa or Mastercard you use to shop and you can start earning.

You can use it on the following networks:

  • 3
  • EE
  • Giffgaff
  • Lebara Mobile
  • Lycamobile
  • Now PAYG
  • O2
  • Vodafone

You don’t need to click a special link each time – just go about your shopping and it’s all done automatically.

It works for online shopping and shopping in physical stores too.

Double up on the cashback / savings

You can still get cashback via other sites like Quidco or Top Cashback on top of using Airtime Rewards.

So if you’re shopping online, be sure to check if there’s a double up opportunity.

For example, Argos has 0.5 per cent cashback on Quidco and 2 per cent on Airtime Rewards.

It all adds up.

Completing the challenges

Airtime Rewards routinely has so-called challenges where you can earn extra cashback for reaching certain goals.

For example, currently until the end of February you can earn £2 extra if you spend a minimum of £5 at four of Airtime Rewards’s retailers.

You’ll get the standard cashback percentage offered by each retailer as normal too.

But don’t buy stuff for the sake of it of course – there’s a hidden trick.

Buy gift cards for your food shopping through Airtime Rewards

Tucked away in the settings is another way to earn – gift cards.

The one thing we always need is food, so buying a £10 gift card with 4 percent back gets me 40p, plus it’ll go towards the challenges I mentioned before.

There’s Sainsbury’s, Asda, Morrisons and even B&M.

Just tap More, then Want to earn more rewards? and you’ll see Gift Cards listed.

Look out for flash bonus cashback

The cashback rates vary from store to store but occasionally a store offers a much bigger rate for a limited time.

Timing your purchases right for these can save you even more.

For example, just before Christmas, Boots has a 50 percent flash cashback day, so I managed to get £3.65 back from that.

Follow for even more bonus rewards

Airtime Rewards also posts bonus rewards on their Twitter account.

So if you know you’re making a purchase on that day, it’s worthwhile – but don’t do it for the sake of it, obviously.

Keep track of cashback

I always keep track of cashback on Airtime Rewards.

I’m the world's best boss - I gave employee HALF my lottery jackpot for helping me
Shoppers go wild for Home Bargains shampoo that's £10 cheaper than elsewhere

On a couple of occasions it hasn’t tracked properly – usually because I was doing a purchase 10 minutes before midnight when a flash offer was running.

But each time I’ve contacted Airtime Rewards with proof of my purchase they fixed it without any issues.
