Video shows people fleeing after flames and a loud bang on popular İstiklal Avenue in Turkish city

An explosion on Istanbul’s popular pedestrian İstiklal Avenue has left people dead and others injured, a senior official said.

The Istanbul governor, Ali Yerlikaya, tweeted that the explosion occurred at about 4.20pm local time (1320 GMT) on Sunday and that there were deaths and injuries, but he did not say how many. The cause of the explosion was not clear.
