Leaked screenshots have suggested that Whatsapp is plotting to release a version of the messaging app for the iPad – something that users have demanded for years.

The popular Meta-owned app was developed for smartphones only and has since become available for computers.

Last month, a version was released for macOS, however the app has never been available for Apple’s iPad.

At the moment, the only way you can access Whatsapp on the device is by using Whatsapp web on safari.

Users have complained about this for a long time, with one person tweeting ‘Why isn’t there whatsapp for ipad ???? if you have a desktop app then what’s really stopping you bud.’

However, these problems could be coming to an end, as according to WABetaInfo, the tablets could be getting their own dedicated version of the app.

The website states ‘Finally, after waiting for a very long time, we’re happy to announce that a beta version compatible with iPad can now be installed via the TestFlight app, for all beta testers who can already use the beta app on their mobile devices.’

There are also screenshots of the app, formatted on a wide iPad screen, proving that testing is in the works.

Right now, it’s still being tested in it’s beta phase so it’s not yet available for everyone.

Testflight is an online service owned by Apple  for the installation and testing of new apps.

However, it’s only offered to developers within the iOS Developer Programme.

Whatsapp has not confirmed if or when it will ever be released to the general public.

Despite this, iPad users are thrilled with the promising news and have taken to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share their joy.

One person wrote ‘Finally there is a WhatsApp for iPad. It is so tiring using Whatsapp Web on iPad.’

Someone else added ‘About damn time. The iPad is increasingly THE computer for work, and the absence of a native WhatsApp client is a big pain.’

Another joked ‘WhatsApp are to launch WhatsApp for iPad, it took them 13 years,’ with a laughing emoji.
