HUNDREDS of Just Eat customers were left hungry as the popular food delivery app and website went down.

The brief service outage occurred between 9am and 10am on Tuesday, February 15, leaving customers unable to place new orders or track their food deliveries.

According to Down Detector, over 350 people reported the outage.

The problem was quickly resolved with a Just Eat spokesperson saying: “We are aware of a brief disturbance in our operations on February 15. The issue has now been fixed.”

Here we look at what happens when Just Eat is down and what your rights are.

Why was Just Eat down?

It is unclear exactly why Just Eat stopped working but common causes four app outages include server overloads, or hardware and software errors.

One user reported an error message which said: “back soon”.

It read: “Closed for maintenance. The computers that run Just Eat are having a moment. Thanks for bearing with us, we’ll be soon back in business.”

How can I check if Just Eat is down?

Just Eat did not give any updates on its social media platforms about the outage.

However, a good place to start if you suspect an outage is often the comments or replies on a company’s social media feed.

You can also search the company or hashtag, where you will find people talking about the issue.

For example, one customer on Facebook said today: ”Why is Just Eat down in Wales? Waiting for my order to be assigned to a driver and there’s this big old just eat maintenance message.

“No order status, no order and of course no way to apply for a refund.”

Another way of checking is going to Down Detector, a website that shows when applications or websites are down based on reports by users.

What happens if I’ve already ordered and the app goes down?

Just Eat said that the outages didn’t last long and only disrupted customers placing new orders.

This stopped users from completing checkout meaning no charges were made.

That means that while customers may have been left hungry, they shouldn’t be left out of pocket.

It also said that order delivery time would not be impacted if you placed an order before the outage.

If you do have any concerns though, you can contact the firm through the website or app.
