It first opened its doors to the public in 1902 as an opera house, hence the name, and has welcomed visitors ever since.

In the 1930s it was converted into a picture house, which transitioned into a bingo hall and finally the Spoons customers know and love today.

The pub has earned itself hundreds of five star ratings on TripAdvisor for its original architectural features, booths and stalls.

One customer wrote: “A stunning building where you can eat a delicious meal! It’s an amazing place. If you are in the area make sure you enter the Opera House.”

Another commented: “The interior has virtually been left as it was and should be left, as an Opera house, with the viewing boxes, stage and back drop, this is heritage left as it should be, glorious, you can also book one of the lower boxes for a meal, good breakfast, usual full English, with a selection of other breakfasts to have, good value for what it is, cheap and cheerful.”

“Incredible building complete with original stage lights and rigs on show, we came here for breakfast with a local expecting an average cheap fry up, what we got was so much better,” a third agreed.

While someone else said: “With work I get to travel a lot over the country and go to quite a lot of Wetherspoons, this has to be one of the most impressive ones! Definitely worth a visit!”

Other posts described it as “best spoons I’ve been to” “absolutely gorgeous” and “a mesmerising venue”.

It comes as the world’s biggest Spoons was revealed – and it is situated right on the beach.

The Royal Victoria Pavilion in Ramsgate, Kent, was opened by HRH Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll in 2017.

The Grade II listed building is a former dilapidated pavilion and had been one of the most at-risk Victorian/Edwardian buildings in the land.

It boasts 11,000 square feet of drinking space – including a huge terrace over the beach – and holds 1,500 punters, making it the biggest pub in Europe.
