Who is Parag Agrawal?

Parag Agrawal is the new CEO of Twitter, as of Monday, November 29.

The Indian-American tech executive has worked at Twitter for a decade.

He was named as the new CEO by former chief exec and Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey in a surprise statement to staff, media and the world.

In the statement, Dorsey wrote: “The board ran a rigorous process considering all options and unanimously appointed Parag.

“He’s been my choice for some time given how deeply he understands the company and its needs.

“Parag has been behind every critical decision that helped turn this company around.

“He’s curious, probing, rational, creative, demanding, self-aware and humble.

“He leads with heart and soul, and is something I learn from daily.”

Dorsey added: “My trust in him as our CEO is bone deep.”

Agrawal was born in India but has US citizenship.

He received an undergraduate degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, and a doctorate from Stanford University.

What is Parag Agrawal’s job title?

Before November 29, 2021, Parag Agrawal was the Chief Technology Officert at Twitter.

But he was promoted to Chief Executive Officer after co-founder Jack Dorsey’s departure.

He was previously leading Twitter’s tech strategy, machine learning, AI, consumer, revenue and science teams.

His remit has now broadened to managing the entire company.

When did Parag Agrawal join Twitter?

Agrawal joined Twitter in October 2011.

Dorsey notes: “Parag started here as an engineer who cared deeply about our work and now he’s our CEO.

“This alone makes me proud.

“I know that Parag will be able to channel this energy best because he’s lived it and knows what it takes.”

He was named as “Distinguished Software Engineer” at Twitter, and was promoted to the role of Twitter CTO after the departure of Adam Messinger.

Agrawal was previously employed in leadership positions at Microsoft and Yahoo.

In December 2019, Dorsey announced that Agrawal would manage Project Bluesy.

This was a bid to create an “open and decentralised standard” for social media to control “abusive and misleading information” on Twitter.

Parag Agrawal is now permanent CEO of Twitter.

He has an estimated net worth of $1.52million.

What did Parag Agrawal say about becoming Twitter CEO?

Agrawal posted his own statement about becoming CEO shortly after Dorsey’s comments.

He said: “I’m honoured and humbled. And I’m grateful for your continued mentorship and your friendship.

“I’m grateful for the service that you built, the culture, soul and purpose you fostered among us, and for leading the company through really significant challenges.

“I’m grateful for the trust you’ve put in me and for your continued partnership.”

He added: “The world is watching us right now, even more than they have before.

“Lots of people are going to have lots of different views and opinions about today’s news.

“It is because they care about Twitter and our future, and it’s a signal that the work we do here matters.

“Let’s show the world Twitter’s full potential!”
