The U.S. inflation report for September will show how consumer prices changed last month, offering an indication of whether increases in the cost of living are easing since they began accelerating last year.

The consumer-price index rose 8.3% in August from a year earlier, the Labor Department said last month. That was down from an annual increase of 8.5% in July and 9.1% in June, which was the highest inflation rate in four decades.
