THEY became a big food trend last year, and butter boards still have the wow factor to impress your guests.
Even better, they are cheap to throw together.
You can make them ahead of time and then serve up for friends to tuck in.
Just follow these steps . . .
BASE CAMP: First, you’ll need a good-size serving board.
Wooden or slate platters look great.

Pop about two tablespoons of butter for each guest in a blender and whip until it’s light and fluffy.
Then use the back of a spoon to slather the butter across the board in a layer with waves.
Season with flakes of salt and cracked black pepper.
LAYER UP: The great thing about butter boards is that you can root around in your cupboard for spices and other ingredients that you already have to add flavour.
Almost anything goes.
For example, for an easy, sweeter option, drizzle honey and sprinkle cinnamon over the butter.
Fresh herbs give the dish a bit of further colour and interest.
Basil, mint or coriander shredded up all look great.
Zest from a lemon will add a bold, fruity flavour, but you could also use orange or lime.
Crushed pistachio and other nuts are additions, too.
If you have a pot of pesto that needs using up, you could drizzle it over the butter with finely cut cherry tomatoes.
The idea is to experiment a little with different flavour combinations. Just make sure you don’t overload the butter.
DIP IN: Serve the board with food that people can use to dip into the flavoured butter.
For example, fresh crunchy bread sliced up or breadsticks and crackers.
