One of the best things about having an iPhone or Android is the ability to download fun apps.

However, not every app is useful, and some can even slow down your phone’s performance.

This is especially the case with social media apps, which can both take up a lot of space and make your device lag.

To help prevent this, tech experts have recommended that you delete certain apps from your phone.

SNAPCHAT

Snapchat, like most social media apps, comes packed with a lot of multimedia features.

These features – real-time camera filters, photos, and video – require a lot of heavy data processing.

In turn, this causes a strain your device’s resources like the CPU, memory, location services, and battery.

This can and often does result in slower overall device performance, tech expert Zeshan Malik told SheFinds.com.

To prevent this, it’s best to delete Snapchat entirely from your device.

However, those who don’t want to remove the app can change their settings to limit Snapchat’s data usage.

First, open Snapchat > tap your profile icon in the top left > go to Settings.

From there, tap on Data Saver > enable the Travel Mode option to prevent the automatic downloading of content.

WHATSAPP

WhatsApp can take up a lot of space on your device, which in turn can significantly decrease its performance.

“While WhatsApp itself is not typically a major performance hog, it can slow down your iPhone if you receive and store a large number of media files such as photos, videos, and documents within the app,” Malik said.

“Over time, the accumulation of these files can consume a significant amount of storage space and impact overall device performance.”

You can delete the app from your device, or you can modify a few settings to mitigate the app’s usage.

Malik recommended that WhatsApp users regularly clean up within the app.

To do this, open WhatsApp > open a chat > tap on the contact or group name at the top.

Then, head to Media, Links, and Docs and remove any unnecessary files.

You can also disable the Auto-Download feature in Settings > Chats > Media Visibility to prevent the automatic saving of media to your device’s gallery.

“Remember that removing these apps entirely may offer the most significant performance improvements,” Malik said.

“However, if you rely on any of these apps for daily use, try the alternative suggestions first to optimize their impact on your iPhone’s performance while retaining their functionality.”
