SHOPPERS know Aldi is one of the best supermarkets to grab a bargain – but there’s one money-saving trick you might not be aware of.

The German retailer is not only famous for discounted food, but also its Specialbuys.

However, you might not know there’s one way you can find out when the next batch of Specialbuys are on offer – by checking out the Aldi Specialbuys magazine.

You can get the mag online, or you can pick it up at the front of most stores.

And it could help you get ahead of other customers and nab a potential bargain before it sells out.

The advice comes from Julie Ashfield, managing director of buying at Aldi UK, who offered four other tips to help customers save money in the run up to Christmas.

Try going own brand

Switching from high end, and normally more expensive, products to Aldi’s own brand goods can help you save hundreds a year.

Money-saving expert Martin Lewis has previously urged households to do this while supermarket shopping too.

Aldi offers alternatives to the majority of mainstream brands as well – so there’s usually an option to choose from.

Head to the middle aisle

You won’t find just pizza ovens and egg chairs in Aldi’s middle aisle.

Shoppers can pick up loads of festive essentials there too – including candles, Christmas crackers and wrapping paper.

To pick up the best deals and save the most money, Julie said to head to your nearest store on a Thursday or Sunday.

That’s when you’ll find the latest Specialbuys before anyone else has a chance to nab them.

Cut back on food waste

You’ll undoubtedly end up with leftover food this Christmas – but you can always use it up and save money in the process.

Aldi offers hundreds of recipes on its website to help you make the most of anything spare, from adding spare turkey to a carbonara to making a batch of mulled wine.

Avoid impulse buying

Christmas might be a time for indulgence, but that doesn’t mean you have to burst the bank with impulse buys.

So hold back from buying things if they’re on offer or part of a multi-deal.

Plus, you can use Aldi’s click and collect service so you don’t have to head into your nearest store where you might make a rash decision.

The retailer has already made its Christmas slots available at over 200 stores so you can get ahead of the game already.

What else can you do to save?

Beyond Julie’s recommendations, there are some other ways to help you cut back on costs if you’re shopping at Aldi this Christmas.

Tom Church, co-founder of Latest Deals, suggested looking out for red stickers, which Aldi uses to show what products are reduced.

Plus, he claimed Wednesday was the best day to shop at your nearest Aldi because that’s when all the reduced prices are launched.

On top of that, one Aldi store manager revealed how products with imperfect packaging can sometimes be reduced by 30% and might be worth picking up.

In other news, an Aldi shopper found a £3.99 dupe for a more expensive Yankee Candle worth £27.

Plus, reporter Rosie Taylor tried pigs in blankets from a range of supermarkets to find the best.
