“I just finished babysitting my grandson and stopped to purchase this ticket on my way home,” she said.

The Canadian nan has been a regular lottery player for over ten years and was “dumbfounded” when she realised she had won.

“I looked at it a few times and counted all the words to make sure. I was surprised,” Edwards said.

“I’ll take some time to let it set in, but I know my family will encourage me to treat myself to a trip, so we’ll see,” she added.

Edwards is planning to give her grandson, who she called her “good luck charm”, an extra special gift for Christmas but has not made any decisions on what it will be yet.

The winning ticket was purchased at Circle K on Midland Avenue in Midland.

The Instant Quest for Gold Crossword game is available for just £2.40, with a top prize of £41,000.

This huge win comes after a lucky lady from Maryland won £200,000 while running an errand in her local shop.

The mum-of-five, Isabel Sandoval, was on a booze run for husband before purchasing three Lady Luck scratch cards on a whim.

The warehouse worker, 35, ended up bagging much more than she bargained for when she scooped the top prize of £200,000 on the lotto ticket.

Sandoval intends to spend the money on her mother who lives in Mexico, while sensibly storing the rest away for her five children and grandchild.

A lottery winning couple from Ontario were also shocked after realising they had won £82,000 with a ticket they had tucked away for a month.

Katrina Nicholls and her husband Ernest scanned their Lotto Max ticket using Katrina’s phone after the purchase.

“I was at home when I checked the ticket on the app. I thought the win was for £82 at first,” she said.

After deciding to cash the winnings at a later date, the lucky couple stashed the ticket away for a month.

But when they went back to check, Katrina was stunned to realise that they had won the huge £82,000 prize.
