I tried Samsung’s Galaxy S24 before anyone else – it’s a must if you hate reading essay texts & has 2 other top features

THE Samsung Galaxy S24 was unveiled this week and I managed to get an early preview of the slick new handset.

In a world where samey smartphones seem to be churned out year after year, the S24 series feels like it brings something fresh.

And not only that, it’s packing useful features I – and others – will actually use.

Much of the fanfare has been around Samsung‘s big push towards AI.

Here are the three top features that stood out from my first hands-on – for a full review check back soon.

Translation

Translation may not be something you use every day but it sure will be handy on holiday.

And by translation, this isn’t some app you type words into.

The Samsung Keyboard allows you to translate 13 languages in real-time.

So, if you’ve had a message while away on holiday about that dinner reservation, you’ll be able to instantly understand it.

Your messages can be translated back to them instantly too.

What’s more striking, is all of this is done “on device”, so anything you write isn’t sent off to the cloud, it’s all kept secure on your phone.

Samsung also does two-way verbal translation in real-time as well, so you can hold up your device to someone and have a semi-flowing conversation.

There is another really stellar feature that allows you to translate phone calls, but I haven’t had a chance to test that yet, so look out for comments about it in my full review soon.

Photos

AI is also there boost your photos.

Some of these features were already available on the previous Galaxy S handsets.

One addition is the ability to magically expand your photo beyond what was taken.

So, imagine you got a beautiful shot on the beach but the angle wasn’t quite right. Adjusting it slightly might leave some weird gaps around the edges.

AI on the Galaxy S24 will cleverly work out what those gaps would look like and fill them in based on what it sees in the photo.

Other cool tools include the ability to remove unwanted objects – or people – as well as move or enlarge them.

Getting organised

One constantly mooted benefit of AI is how it’ll apparently make our lives easier.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 takes on this task across things like your emails, messages and notes.

I saw first hand how it can change the tone of a text or communication for you – so you can write a rough few lines and it’ll make suggests of a more formal tone, a conversational tone, or a polite tone for example.

It’ll also summaries your messages and emails for you, which could be especially handy for friends that like to send essay texts.
