So which is best for your big night in?

Lynsey Hope, 41, from West Malling, Kent, tried out some supermarket fillets and here, she reveals her favourites:

Lynsey says: “I’ll let you into a secret – I’ve been buying Aldi steak for a while and they are SO good.

“The meat is so tender and juicy, they cook well and come out of the frying pan a lovely colour.

“On the plate, they look bigger than others and oh so appetising.

Lynsey says: “A good price from Lidl for a decent bit of meat.

“‘Hereford’ means it comes from cattle sired by registered Hereford bulls and has a fine marbling of fat which makes it succulent and gives it a unique, rich flavour.

“It had a lovely rich flavour and was melt-in-the-mouth tender.

“Great value too. Loved it.”

Lynsey says: “Mixed reviews for Sainsbury’s steaks online but if you get the British rather than Irish meat as I did, I think you’ll have a good meal.

“It’s a good size with a lovely flavour.

“The meat was tender and melt in the mouth. Easy to cook.

“There was no gristle and no waste once I’d finished. I’d buy it again.”

“My kids, who can be a bit fussy and would certainly turn their noses up at chewy meat or gristle, even loved this.

“It’s a good size – a bit larger than most. Melt in the mouth.

“Delicious, if a little expensive.”

Lynsey says: “Tasty and tender, this was a decent fillet.

“There was a little gristle but it was very juicy and flavoursome.

“It is dearer than a lot of other supermarkets and rather pricey for an Asda product but I thought it was a lovely and top quality piece of meat.”

“However, this was very disappointing.

“It was full of sinews, gristle and wasn’t the best taste.

“I thought it was poor quality – a waste of £6.
