A LONDON woman has been raking in cash after starting a home ware side hustle in her parent’s kitchen.
Becca Thurston was inspired by her granny to begin sewing cushions, and has now made thousands thanks to her creativity.
Her business, Sewn London, kept her busy during the first months of lock down in 2020 – and had humble beginnings.
She began sewing hand-made cushions, which now sell for £26 each – but has branched out into other home ware items.
Becca now makes vases, kitchen linens, throws and tableware for his small business, and rakes in about £12,000 per month.
Her side hustle was inspired by her granny, who Becca said nurtured her love for textiles.
Becca gushed: “I remember watching my Granny being able to make everything from scratch and being inspired by her creativity.
“When times got a little tricky and after struggling to secure a career in the dance world, which is what I had dreamed of for so long and trained to do.
“I thought well I might as well turn to another interest of mine to help balance my mood but also see if it could help with my bank balance.”
Clearly her venture paid off, as she has employed a team of seamstresses to help keep up with the immense amount of orders, which are eco-friendly as well.

She said: “Everything spare is upcycled into another product. I am also really passionate about championing British craftsmen and women and where possible I always use British fabrics and suppliers.
“I look back now and can’t believe that within the first few months, I made £30,000 and that injection of orders and cash really set me off on the right path and quickly.”
Becca isn’t the only business owner to see her side hustle take off – Lucie Macleod from Wales began a business in her home that took off.
At the age of just 20-years-old, in October 2020, during the Coronavirus pandemic, the savvy University student launched her brand, Hair Syrup.
What began as a side hustle in her parent’s house, which was started with just £600, money she had made from her job at an ice cream shop, quickly snowballed into a viral phenomenon on TikTok.
Now Hair Syrup has expanded from just Lucie in her parent’s conversatory to 16 members of staff.
She shared: “There’s 16 of us at Hair Syrup now and I have two offices and a warehouse in Pembrokeshire.
“Now, we are selling tens of thousands of units every month and make about £300,000 a month.”
