A LUCKY couple have recalled the moment they won £1 million on lottery – having first thought that it was a wind up.
Theresa Picton-Clark and her husband John matched five main numbers and the Bonus Ball in January last year and were left screaming and crying.
Jubilant audio captured the life changing moment as the pair received confirmation from an operator that they had just become millionaires.
Theresa, 70, a champion ballroom dancer John, 68, celebrated by enjoying five bottles of champagne and a Waltz around the living room.
And recalling the special phone call a year later, the couple still can’t quite believe it.
“Even after a year I still have to pinch myself. I remember asking the lady on the phone at The National Lottery if it was a wind up,” Theresa said.
“My head was spinning, I was crying, I felt free. In fact, listening back to the recording I did say I was going to liberate a bottle of champagne – and we ended up liberating a fair few more!”
The pair revealed they picked up the winning ticket at a petrol station on the way to a hardware store and quipped at the time that “they may win the lottery.”
LOTTERY LATEST
Ever since, they have wasted no time in sharing their winnings and have bought laptops for friends and family who were home-schooling during lockdown.
The generous couple also purchased devices for their local school, bought a washing machine for a friend and even purchased Theresa’s dream car – a Fiat 500 Abarth.
Plans for their future now include a trip of a lifetime to Antarctica as Theresa eyes a return to her glory days on the dancefloor.
She said: “For me, the win means I am able to get back onto the dancefloor and lose myself in the freedom of ballroom dancing.
“I have a burning desire to reach those former highs and winning on The National Lottery is my ticket back to success.”
JACKPOT PRIZE
For those looking to emulate the same slice of luck, a reported huge £20 million “must-be-won” jackpot is up for grabs in the National Lottery draw on Saturday.
There were no winners of Wednesday night’s jackpot, however, Saturday’s jackpot will either be scooped by one ticket-holder who matches all numbers or it will be shared between runners up.
No contestants matched all six main numbers to bag the estimated £2 million jackpot.
However, one lucky person got the five numbers and bonus ball combination needed to win the second biggest prize of £1 million.
A total of 37 ticket-holders won £1,750 after matching five of the six numbers.
The winning Lotto numbers were 43, 48, 49, 52, 55, 58 and the bonus ball was 32.
