You may have even earned some, and it’s very easy to check.

These points are part of a system called My Nintendo Rewards, and fans have revealed how much they like them in a Reddit thread.

One wrote: “Nintendo Gold Points, the only thing their shop does right. This is just a small post, but I don’t ever see it brought up, but I’m sitting on $9 worth of Gold Points.

“I can buy a $9 game with just the points I’ve collected buying other games.”

They added: “There’s been a few times over the last six years where I’ve realized I saved up a ton and got a game for much cheaper.”

Another wrote: “Last time I saved $20 on the game vouchers meaning I essentially saved $40 on two Nintendo first-party games that never go on sale. It’s amazing.”

POINTS EXPLAINED

There are two types of points that you can earn on Nintendo Switch.

The first type is called Platinum Points.

Nintendo says these are “points earned for using various services or as a prize for certain promotions or tournaments”.

The game-maker continued: “These points can be redeemed for any reward that requires Platinum Points.”

Platinum Points can be used to pick up a whole host of Nintendo collectibles.

There’s also another type of point called Gold Points.

These are typically earned through buying games – but there are several other ways to collect them.

They’re particularly valuable as they can be used to get discounts on video games – or other items for the Nintendo eShop.

“Gold Points can also be earned on select physical purchases, such as by purchasing products in the Nintendo physical stores or by purchasing packaged Nintendo Switch software,” Nintendo explained.

“Or through other means determined by Nintendo, such as by participating in certain promotions, tournaments and/or other activities.

“These points can be redeemed for any reward that requires Gold Points.

“They can also be used to purchase eligible digital content from Nintendo eShop or from the official Nintendo website (where available).”
