There’s a new look all around for the lock screen

Just make sure you’ve upgraded to iOS 16, it’s free after all.

Once you’ve got it, try my must-know hacks below.

Customise your iPhone lock screen

Apple has taken a leaf out of Android‘s book and finally given users much more flexibility with what they can do on the lock screen.

You can now customise it more than ever before, with a photo shuffle of your favourite images, filters, and even a change of font and look for the clock.

It’s possible to make the clock blend into your image as well, which looks really neat.

But the most striking change is the arrival of widgets.

So you could have the calendar or Facebook notifications kept there, for example.

The update you’ll notice straight away is to your iPhone’s lock screen.

Notifications are now at the bottom and you can see the progress of your food delivery with Live Activities – all without having to unlock your iPhone.

To set yours up, just tap and hold the lock screen, then select Customise.

Greater control over messages

Apple is hoping to take a grab a slice of WhatsApp‘s success with some big changes to iMessage.

You can now edit messages and even unsend entire messages – which could save you from embarrassing moments or something you regret saying.

But it comes with some huge caveats.

First of all, you only get 15 minutes to do it – after that it’s permanent.

And crucially, the recipient needs to have iOS 16 installed too.

So if you’ve messaged someone with an Android device it won’t work.

Better focusing

The focus mode is more refined with more filters you can use to stop notifications on apps.

It can be turned on automatically using your location, like going into the office, and can change the home screen to help you really get in the zone.

You can even schedule a summary of all notifications, like when you finish work for example, so you can catch up on all those pesky group WhatsApp messages in one go.
