META is finally gracing WhatsApp users on Android with a feature iPhone owners have had the privilege of using for nearly a year.
Eagle-eyed experts at TheSpAndroid have spotted the feature deep inside a new version of the app’s code, which should be arriving in an upcoming update.
The feature gives users a transcription option for voice messages, allowing them to see what was spoken in text.
While voice notes can be a lot of fun, they can be frustrating messages to deal with when important information is sandwiched inside.
And sometimes, the receiving party isn’t able to listen.
That’s when transcriptions come in handy.

WhatsApp automatically transcribes the voice notes, which then drop down under a recorded message.
In true WhatsApp fashion, the transcriptions – like the voice notes and standard messages – are end-to-end encrypted.
iPhone owners received this feature last year.
But Android owners have been waiting patiently for it to roll out to their handsets.

That time has finally come, according to TheSpAndroid, which saw the code buried in a WhatsApp beta release titled v2.24.7.7.
“I need this feature yesterday,” one onlooker wrote on X.
Another tweeted: “I need that function.”
