The poster wrote: “About a year ago I inherited a rental home and while the estate was going thru probate I just left the account untouched.

“After everything was settled with the estate I noticed the tenant had been paying rent late and was short each month so I called to let her know I was the new landlord and after looking at my grandpa’s notes it turns out she’s a single mom and scrapping by.

“Long story short my attorney and accountant are working on ‘selling’ her house for the amount she’s already paid in rent.

“She’s lived there six years, I’ve ‘owned’ for 14months. It’s my house in name only but it’s her home. F**k you land lords.”

Responding to a commentator, the original poster added some details as to what motivated them to do such a generous thing.

They said: “I did it for many personal reasons. My wife and I do well with our day jobs and I was raised by a single mom that busted her ass to make ends meet.

“Just trying to pay it forward. It was also a personal middle finger to some relatives that took advantage of my grandparents declining mental state and were expecting a cut of the sale.”

In another update, the Reddit user added: “In case anyone is concerned about her falling for predatory lender In this case I am the “bank” with a loan against the property with monthly payments equaling the property taxes.”

The claims made have not been verified and it is not clear if the post is genuine.

Many commentators waded in to show their support for the landlord.

One said: “The world needs more land lords like you. Seriously.”

Another added: “THANK YOU, I am not the recipient but THANK YOU. You have done something amazing that will be positive for all those involved thank you so much.”

A third wrote: “This is Awesome. I have also inherited rental properties about 2 years ago. I put in my will that all the houses go to whoever is renting them. I have no kids and don’t want any and I have no significant other to leave them to anyways.”

While the vast majority of commentators supported the original poster, some though doubted the post was genuine.

One person wrote: “There is no chance this is real. It’s also a really stupid way for them to do this.

“Why not just actually give the house to the lady instead have her make you payments exactly the cost of the taxes? It just makes no sense.”

Another added: “Okay, I do not believe you at all.”
