Psychic Medium Alicia Rose, who has done more than 150,000 readings over the last 40 years, has shared secrets of the practice

Imagine looking down at your hands and knowing what the future holds.

For centuries, people have professed to have the ability to read palms, analyzing lines, hand shape, finger length, texture and other details to predict what’s coming.

This pseudoscience of fortune telling, known as palmistry or chiromancy, claims to interpret lines and creases on the hand to predict aspects of your life, including love, health, creativity, intelligence and emotions.

Followers of the ancient practice believe every mark and groove has a meaning that can differ based on length, curvature, and depth.

Even the intersections of lines supposedly add up to a detailed analysis of a person’s character and potential future outcomes.

But much like astrology or reading tea leaves, palmistry is viewed more as a superstitious belief among the scientific community.

The lines analyzed on the palm include the life line that symbolizes health, the head line to represent intellectual abilities and the heart or love line, which is associated with emotions and relationships.

DailyMail.com spoke with Psychic Medium Alicia Rose, who has done more 150,000 readings in the last 40 years, to break down the art of palm reading.

The lines on the palm include the life line (health), head line (intellectual abilities) and heart line (emotional state and relationships)

Which hand you read matters

Your left and right palms are different in the world of palm reading.

Generally speaking, your dominant hand will give you the most accurate results and is the one you should focus on.

As Rose explained, ‘The non-dominant hand is what you are born with, and the dominant hand is what you do with what you have been given.’

When palm reading, the easiest way to analyze your hand is by taking two photos.

The first should be with your hand open flat, palm facing upward, fingers naturally spread apart and thumb outstretched out to the side.

Keep your hand relaxed as you want to be able to study the natural lines of your palm.

For the second photo – of the same hand – turn your fingers in very gently from a horizontal position to a very slight vertical position.

This way, the lines on your palm become more pronounced and easier to read.

You’ll begin to notice weak, broken and deeper lines by looking at your palm or at the photos.

Rose said: ‘Lines can change over time as they reflect our choices in life. In general, strong lines suggest depth, strength or power, and weak lines suggest flightiness, instability or weakness.’

The Fate Line

Sometimes called Line of Destiny, the Fate Line runs vertically up the palm, often originating near the wrist and extending up toward the middle finger.

If the Fate Line starts higher than the base of the palm, you can expect success and career changes later in life.

‘A strong solid unbroken line signals advancement, and if it ends in a fork, it signals success in finances,’ said Rose.

She added: ‘If the line ends in a trident, it signifies success, spirituality and fulfillment.

‘A weak fate line is a disappointment, a missing one is a predictable mundane life and a broken one can signal a major loss or setback.’

And if you see two lines, you’re destined for great success.

It’s important to pay attention to where the Fate Line intersects with another, as this can represent when that success will find you.

‘The intersection [with] the Head Line [means] around age 35 and the Heart Line at age 55,’ Rose explained.

The Heart Line

The Heart Line is a central one in palm reading. Practitioners claim this indent provides insight into feelings, relationships, love and romance.

It runs horizontally across the upper part of the palm, beginning on the edge under the pinkie and moving toward the index finger.

A short Heart Line indicates it's hard for you to get involved with another person and truly let yourself go

A long Heart Line means you are expressive with your emotions and jump into relationships.

A short Heart Line indicates it’s hard for you to get involved with another person.

Pay close attention to where your Heart Line ends, too.

‘If your Heart Line ends under your index finger, you are idealistic and a true giver of the heart. You give everything to your relationships with others and are well-loved by all.

If it ends under the middle finger, you focus on family and are a true friend who is loyal with a sense of duty.

Rose says you may be a leader, independent and have great people skills.

If your line falls between your index and middle fingers, you are very practical in your relationships and use common sense. You are well-trusted, laid back, tolerant and have friends from many backgrounds,’ Rose added.

The depth of your Heart Line also yields clues. A deep line means you love with strong emotions and a faint one means it is hard for you to get close to others.

The way the Heart Line curves across your palm toward your fingers tells how you love. If it curves upward, you’re very expressive with your feelings. A straight line means you’re reserved.

Rose said: ‘If your Heart Line turns down at the end, you are someone who guards their feelings and does not fall in love easily because when you do love it is very deep. You internalize your emotions, and some may find you not easy to emotionally read.’

The Head Line

This mark is said to offer insight into how you think, process information and communicate with others.

You can look for it under the Heart Line. It starts from the edge near your thumb and stretches horizontally to the opposite side of the palm.

In general, a long Head Line indicates that you value detail and can absorb a lot of information.

A deep headline means you have a good memory, a focused mind and find concentration easier. A shallow head line implies flexible thinking and a shorter attention span

A short headline is claimed to suggest someone thinks more linearly and reaches conclusions quickly.

‘A longer line that ends under the ring finger signifies intelligence and a shorter line [signifies] dullness,’ Rose said.

A deep Head Line supposedly means you have a good memory, a focused mind and find concentration easier. A shallow one implies flexible thinking and a shorter attention span.

Just like the others, the curvature matters, too. A straight headline means practical and realistic.

A sloping or curved line suggests you trust your instincts and have a vivid imagination.

Where the line begins also reflects different traits.

‘A line closer to the index finger can mean a capacity for leadership, charm and a magnetic personality. A line which falls lower towards the middle suggests someone who is easily frustrated and does not like criticism,’ Rose said.

And a very low line suggests a lack of self-confidence.

Mystic Cross

Rose said the Mystic Cross, which is a line between the Heart and Head, can be the mark of someone with strong psychic abilities.

If the mark is below the index finger, you could have ‘uncanny insight’ into other people’s thoughts, the palm reader said.

If it is below your middle finger, you are said to be highly intuitive and versatile.

Below your ring finger signifies creative qualities, healing energies, and luck in life.

Finally, if the cross falls below your pinky finger, Rose says you have a desire to ‘know the unknown, exploring mysticism and spirituality.’

Looking for a professional?

There’s a lot to investigate here, and Rose said an online psychic is one way to see what your palms say and gives five tips to find one you can trust.

1. Be pragmatic and know what you’re looking for going in.

‘An educated client makes for a satisfying reading on both sides and to be able to make the best use of your time,’ Rose says.

Make sure the psychic can handle your specific questions or concerns.

2. Do your research.

Look for reviews and a significant history of performing psychic readings.

‘There is no substitute for experience. Longevity in a psychic craft matters because you need to have some perspective on life and discernment to be able to advise properly,’ Rose said.

3. Ask questions about a psychic’s experience, what they do, or how they work.

‘However, testing a psychic is rude and will not get you what you want. Stay away from anyone who does sample readings or says something non-specific (cold readings),’ Rose said.

Be realistic and beware of anyone who says they are 100 percent accurate.

4. A good reader is a professional and needs time.

‘Be prepared to be patient with a skilled psychic. What you see on television is often for entertainment purposes only, and psychic readings usually don’t work that way in real life,’ Rose said.

Come prepared with questions to keep your reading on track. But do not try to force a reading, she continued. Let the psychic stay in the driver’s seat.

5. Trust the vibes

A good psychic will not tell you how to live your life and will not judge you.

Rose said: ‘Honesty, respect, and genuine kindness should be a part of who your reader is, and you should feel as though they could be your friend in real life.’

If you feel pressured into spending money or if anything feels off, walk away. But keep in mind a good reader will tell you what you need to hear — not what you want to hear.

‘Stay open to their message if it is negative,’ she explained.
