A LUCKY man from China was on cloud nine after discovering piles of cash secretly hidden inside a mouldy old mattress.

The unnamed man, who lives in Wuzhou, Guangxi, said he was picking old furniture from the street when he hit the jackpot.

He was overjoyed when he removed the cover and found stashes of money hidden between the support coils

Footage shared on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok, shows the cash spread inside the mattress surface, as the excited finder takes out a bundle of notes and starts counting them.

The picture shows a few bundles of cash with bills that are worth 100 Chinese Yuan, equivalent to £10 – which makes the total discovery worth at least a couple of hundred pounds.

The man is said to run a household recycling centre, and usually spends his days collecting scraps to make a living.

A woman standing next to him can be heard excitedly helping him take the money out of the mattress.

Users of Douyin were left excited by the extraordinary luck of the man.

Chen Xiaomei, one of the users, wrote: “I will change my route tomorrow to collect scraps.”

Earlier this year, a renovator from the US thought it was his lucky day when he discovered £150,000 hidden behind a wall – but it soon turned into a nightmare.

Posting under the name Maomoondog, the user shared his lucky find on social media site Reddit.

“The notes range from the 1920’s to the late 1950’s. I can’t seem to find any reference to serial numbers or print runs for any of these older notes. Where can I find some more info on older notes to help me sort the ones that might have greater value?”
