APPLE could massively increase the amount of storage you get on an iPhone very soon.

A new leak suggests that Apple is preparing to make a big change with this year’s iPhone 14.

Normally you'd pay extra for 256GB of storage on an iPhone

The new iPhone is expected out at the beginning of September.

We’re tipped to get an iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus/Max, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

And now industry analysts at TrendForce say that the iPhone 14 Pro models will have 256GB of storage as standard.

For contrast, last year’s iPhone 13 Pro started with 128GB of storage.

That’s half the new amount rumoured for the iPhone 14 Pro.

Last year’s standard iPhone 13 came with 128GB as default.

So it seems likely that the same will be true for the entry-level 2022 iPhone 14.

Normally you’d have to pay £100/$100 to upgrade from 128GB to 256GB of storage.

That means you could end up saving a significant chunk of money if you prefer having more storage on your device.

Of course, Apple could potentially charge more for the Pro model as standard – undoing any savings.

Sadly Apple hasn’t confirmed this rumour so it’s impossible to say if it’s true.

We won’t know the full details of the iPhone 14 line-up until the official Apple event on September 7.

The Sun’s tech team will be reporting live from the event so check back for the latest news.

iPhone 14 release date – when is it out?

Apple sticks to a fairly regular release schedule for its flagship iPhoneseries.

This year, Apple is hosting a special event called “Far Out” on September 7.

The company hasn’t confirmed that a new handset will be unveiled at the glitzy affair – but it’s almost certain we’ll see the iPhone 14.

Of course, the iPhone 14 likely won’t be available to buy outright on September 7.

Instead we’d expect iPhone 14 pre-orders to begin on Friday, September 9.

Then we’d imagine media reviews of the product will start arriving on Wednesday, September 14.

And then the actual iPhone 14 release date will likely fall on Friday, September 16.

Of course none of these dates are guaranteed.

iPhone 14 – what to expect

This year we’re expecting four models: iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

On the Pro models, Apple looks likely to remove the “notch” at the top of the screen, and introduce a more powerful A16 processor.

We’re also expecting better cameras generally, including a possible astrophotography feature.

And storage could be ramped up to a whopping great maximum of 2TB.

All of the iPhone 14 models will run on Apple’s latest version of iOS.
