How to update your Apple software

For both the iOS 14.2 and iPadOS 14.2 update go to your Settings and then click “General” and “Software Update”.

You’ll need a compatible device though.

That means you’ll need an iPhone 6s or newer.

For the latest iPadOS you’ll need the following: iPad Air 2 or later, iPad Pro (all models), iPad 5th generation or later or iPad mini 4 and later.

Both iOS 14.2 and iPadOS 14.2 come with exciting new emojis.

These include a ninja, bubble tea, a dodo, a transgender flag, a wand and so much more.

New iPhone wallpapers

iPhone is getting eight new Apple wallpapers with iOS 14.2.

They’re designed for both light and dark modes and you can see them under the “Wallpaper” section in Settings.

People Detection feature

The “Magnifier” section, which you can find by going into Settings and clicking “Accessibility”, is getting a new People Detection feature.

This will be very useful for people with low vision who want to be warned where other people are in relation to them.

It’s even more useful now we all need to socially distance.

Music Recognition

The update brings a Music Recognition option to the Control Centre.

It lets you identify music around you, a bit like Shazam, but the music can be playing in an app or in your headphones.

Other new update features

On top of the above, Apple has also addressed some bugs with the update.

iOS 14.2 also includes support for Intercom, which lets you turn your Apple devices, such as HomePods or your iPad, into an intercom.
