A HUGE pub chain has become the latest to announce that it is selling dozens of sites across the UK as the sector battles soaring costs.
Marston’s Brewery has put 61 pubs up for sale following a review of its estate.
The group, which has more than 1,400 pubs across the country, said it wants to focus on its core venues to “maximise returns”, according to The Caterer.
Boozers in the Midlands, Yorkshire, Sussex and Wales have been put on the market by Marston’s.
The sale of the pubs are being managed by commercial real estate agency Christie & Co.
It doesn’t mean that venues will close yet, they’ll stay open until they are bought and the new owner may chose to keep the venue running as a pub.
The Sun has approached Marston’s for comment and we will update this article as soon as we hear back.
Pubs have been knocked by rising costs as inflation sends prices soaring and there is less demand among cash-strapped punters.
Marston’s ramped up the price of a pint by 45p last year, breaking the £4 barrier in many areas for the first time.
Meanwhile Wetherspoons also hiked the price of beer and food amid ongoing closures.

The chain confirmed to The Sun last week that two more of its sites have been permanently closed with 32 more still up for sale.
Pub giant Stonegate, which is behind brands such as Slug and Lettuce and Be At One, is also looking to sell off pubs.
Revolution revealed it will be shutting some of its bars on Mondays and Tuesdays to help cut energy costs.
And The Restaurant Group confirmed that it will close up to 35 Frankie & Benny’s and Chiquito restaurants over the next two years.
Around 4,500 pubs in the UK are considering reducing trading hours over winter, according to the British Beer and Pub Association.
