Affordable
Last year, Roku began selling its smart TVs in supermarkets, including Asda and Tesco.
The company has partnered with a string of big names in the tech industry to bring its TVs to customers, such as Ferguson, Sharp and Polaroid.
It’s main focus is to make smart TVs affordable and accessible to the UK market, which continues to battle with inflation.
“We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Roku Operating System within our Logik TVs,” Senior Buyer at Currys, Paul Slater, said in the announcement.
“I’m confident this exciting new partnership will not only complement our existing portfolio but further strengthen our offering of customer-focused smart TVs”.
How Roku became a household name
ROKU has become a household name in both the UK and the US thanks to its Fire Stick-style streaming devices.
Although the Roku Sticks have become increasingly hard to find in the UK in recent months – they are of Amazon’s biggest competitors.
Headquartered in California, the company’s first partnership was with Netflix for its digital media player back in 2008.
Since then, it has launched at least 10 generations of streaming players.
Roku is thought to hold roughly a third of the total number of TV streaming hours across the globe, as of a 2022 report by Conviva.
Affordability has been front and centre for the brand since its inception in 2002, when it was founded by billionaire businessman Anthony Wood.
So in 2023, it’s no wonder its first range of branded smart TVs made headlines for their price tags.
