EVER watched a video on TikTok and then wished you could find it again to share with friends?
The good news is, it is possible to retrieve your watch history on the platform, but the steps to do so differ depending on the device you’re using.
How to see your TikTok watch history on an iPhone
If you’ve been searching without success for a video on TikTok, never fear, as the social media giant offers the option to view your video history.
To get you watch history, all you need to do is request your data file from TikTok, this will also include other important information such as your followers, likes list, bio, and more.
To do so on the Apple iPhone using the following steps:
- Open the TikTok app and your profile
- In the top right corner select the three lines, then “Privacy” from the options provided
- Then tap “Personalization and data”
- From here you’ll have to option to “Download your data”, select this
- Press the “Request data” option at the bottom of the screen
- You’ll then get a confirmation of your data request, if you tap on “Download data” you’ll be able to see its status (it normally takes around 24 hours to process)
- When it’s done, press “Download”, which will direct you to your internet browser
- Sign into your TikTok profile
- Select the “Download” option from the confirmation window
- It will then download in a ZIP format (if you’re not able to open it on your iPhone you can send it to your computer and open it there
- Open the ZIP file and open the .txt file called “Video Browsing History”
- Here you’ll find a list of the time, date and link to each video
- The simply copy and paste the URL into your browser to watch the video
How to see your TikTok watch history on an Android
If you’ve got an Android device the process for retrieving your data is pretty similar.
Here’s what you need to do:
- Open the app and your profile in the bottom right of the screen
- Select the three lines in the top right
- Go to “Settings & Privacy”, then “Privacy”
- Select “Personalization and data”
- Press “Download your data”, then “Request data”
- You’ll get a message showing the status of your request.
- Once it’s ready, select “Download data”, then “Download” to transfer it to your phone once it’s ready
- You’ll then be able to open it in “Files” or “My Files”, if not you can send it to your computer as before
- The file will contain .txt folders as before
- Open the one called “Video Browsing History” and you’ll find the time, date and URL link for videos you’ve watched
- Copy and paste the link into your URL and enjoy!
How to see your TikTok watch history on a PC
If you’ve watched loads of videos, you may prefer to request your data on a PC so you can sift through multiple links more easily.
The steps to do this on your computer are slightly different from how you do it on a handheld device, but it’s just as easy to do.
- Open your browser and go to TikTok.com
- Click your profile icon in the top right and choose “Settings” from the drop-down menu
- Under the “Privacy” section select “Data”
- Choose TXT as the “Selected file format” and then click “Request data” at the bottom
- From here you can open the “Download data” tab at the top right to keep track of the status of the request
- Once it’s been processed, open the zip folder by double clicking on it on Mac, or right clicking then selecting “Extract All” and following the instructions on PC
- Open the file and select the “View Browsing” folder
- Here you’ll find the time, date and URL links to videos you’ve watched or saw
Once you think you’ve found the one you’re looking for, copy and paste the link into the browser.
You’ll then be able to watch the video and share the link with friends.
