How to save money and go green on cleaning products ahead of the festive period

AS we all look to do our bit for the environment, now is a good time to think about going green when you clean.

Eco-cleaning can be about picking the right products when you shop, or making your own solutions, using items found at home.

Here are my tips on saving money — and the environment.

REAL DEALS: Dig around to find a discount or code.

You can get 20 per cent off at natural cleaning product firm bideboxes.com, so its basic box with eco dishwasher powder and toilet cleaning bombs is £8, rather than £10, using code BIDE20.

BLACK FRIDAY BARGAIN: Cleaning product firm Delphis Eco is offering its Ultra Home Hero eco bundle, including anti-bacterial kitchen sanitiser, bathroom cleaner, glass cleaner spray, limescale remover, toilet cleaner and lots more for just £34, saving £10.

And Ecozone is offering 40 per cent off its products on what it calls Green Friday. Pick up a pack of natural laundry detergent soap nuts (330 washes, 1kg) for just £7.79, saving £5.19.

DITCH DISPOSABLES: Do away with throwaway cloths and excessive kitchen roll usage with an ultra-absorbent eco-friendly Spunj. Costs just £1.49 from B&M, Poundland and The Range.

And swap plastic washing-up liquid bottles for biodegradable, vegan washing-up soap bars from LoofCo. A 100g bar costs £2.75 from Beauty Naturals.

DO AN ECO-WASH: Fill the reusable eco Laundry Egg with mineral pellets and pop it in the machine on top of your washing.

At £9.99 for an egg and £4.99 for refill pellets, it works out at just 10p a wash. Available at ecoegg.com and shops such as Waitrose and Wilko.

GET ME A REFILL: Pop a concentrated OceanSaver EcoDrop refill (£1.50 per pack) in a reusable spray bottle full of water to create a powerful cleaning product.

Spend just 20p per 100ml compared to up to 60p with many high street brands.

MAKE YOUR OWN: Joyce French, cleaning expert at homehow.co.uk, recommends mixing 60ml of white vinegar, 1 tbsp of baking soda, a litre of water and half a lemon for a multi-purpose eco cleaner.
