How to get groceries delivered in an hour or less from supermarkets including Tesco and Aldi

SUPERMARKETS are now offering super speedy deliveries that can get groceries to your door in an hour or less.

Here’s what you can get from Tesco, Aldi and other stores, including how it works and how much you’ll pay.

Most supermarkets have been delivering groceries for years, offering online ordering on their websites.

But with the pandemic creating huge demand for online deliveries – and a massive scramble for delivery slots – these shops have created new ways to get groceries to customers even quicker.

Aldi, Sainsbury’s and Co-op are among the names that have added hundreds of items to Deliveroo and Uber Eats.

Meanwhile others like Tesco have created their own speedy services.

Supermarket home deliveries

HERE’S what supermarkets are charging for their home delivery services.

Asda delivery charges range between £1.75 and £4.50. There’s a £40 minimum spend on home delivery orders and a £25 minimum spend for click and collect.
Morrisons delivery slots cost between £2.50 and £7. There’s a £40 minimum spend on home deliveries.
Waitrose doesn’t charge for delivery, but you need to spend a minimum of £40.
Sainsbury’s charges between £1 and £4.50 for delivery. Orders below £40 will be delivered for a £7 charge.
Tesco charges £4.50 for all delivery slots. There’s an extra £4 charge for anything under £40 too.
Ocado orders less than £75 cost between £2.99 and £6.99. More expensive orders are free.

These new quick delivery services can get your shopping to you on the same day, even within an hour and sometimes even less.

That compare to supermarkets’ standard online delivery, where you usually book days or weeks ahead.

But, the fees for quicker delivery can be higher, and so can the cost of the items you’re buying compared to in-store prices.

Consumer group Which? has noted differences in prices of some grocery items on Deliveroo and you’re often paying more for convenience.

It’s worth checking how much you’ll pay in fees before clicking the “buy” button to avoid paying more than you want to.

Tesco

Tesco has just launched Whoosh which it says can deliver a pint of milk and other essentials to your door within an hour.

The new service is being tested in the Midlands, with plans to roll it out across the country if its successful.

Postcodes near the Wolverhampton Willenhall Express store for now.

You can check out Whoosh if it’s near you on Tesco’s website or app and delivery costs a flat £5.

Sainsbury’s

In some locations you can order from Sainsbury’s for delivery within one hour.

It’s through an app called Sainsbury’s Chop Chop and you can buy up to 20 items.

You need to spend a minimum of £15 and delivery costs £4.99. The price you pay on the app can differ to the prices you get in store, according to Sainsbury’s terms and conditions.

At the moment Chop Chop is in selected areas of the following places:

Birmingham
Brighton
Bristol
Cambridge
Cardiff
Leeds
Liverpool
London
Manchester
Milton Keynes
Newcastle
Nottingham
Oxford
Reading
Sheffield

You can also buy your shopping from Sainsbury’s through Deliveroo and Uber Eats

On Uber Eats you can get this in nearly 100 locations, and you can check if it’s available near you here.

Deliveroo is also serving a similar number of locations and you can check on the app if you can get shopping delivered to your postcode.

There are around 1,000 items available, though this can depend on the size of the store.

Delivery from both apps can be in as little as 20 minutes but the exact time can depend on traffic and if there are riders available.

The cost of delivery can depend on where you are and what time you order, but you’ll generally pay a fee of a couple of pounds for delivery and under a £1 for service.

Deliveroo Plus is a monthly subscription costing £11.49, which entitles members to free delivery on orders over £10.

If you have this, then you won’t usually pay any extra for ordering groceries.

Aldi

In some locations you can use Deliveroo to order Aldi groceries for delivery to your door within as little as 30 minutes.

Aldi doesn’t do online grocery delivery direct from its website like other supermarkets, so it’s the only way to get Aldi food to your door.

You will have to pay for delivery and how much that costs can depend on your location.

The delivery fee is around £4.99 and then there’s a service fee of around 30p, unless you have Deliveroo Plus.

There are around 400 items to choose from, Aldi says, and you can check if this speedy service is available to you by going to the Deliveroo app.

Morrisons

Morrisons is available on Deliveroo in some areas, bringing groceries to your door in as little as 30 minutes.

There are around 200 grocery items available and you’ll pay around £4.99 for the delivery, as well as a small service charge, unless you have Deliveroo Plus.

Morrisons says that items are priced the same as in store during the pandemic.

Here’s how to cut the cost of your grocery shop

SAVING on your shop can make a big difference to your wallet. Here are some tips from Money.co.uk about how you can cut the cost of your shopping bills:

Write yourself a list – Only buy items that you need. If it isn’t on your list, don’t put it in the trolley

Around 180 stores offer Deliveroo delivery and you can check on the app if you get it in your area.

Morrisons also offers same-day delivery through Amazon, though not usually within the hour.

You can order through the main Amazon website, where you’ll find the Morrisons food section.

You can choose 2-hour slots throughout the day, if available, or the next day.

You’ll need to be an Amazon Prime member, which costs £7.99 a month or £79 a year, while students pay £3.99 a month or £39 a year and there are free trials available for new customers.

Co-op

You can also buy from the Co-op on Deliveroo with delivery in as little as 30 minutes.

Times can vary according to locations, traffic and availability of drivers of course.

Check if it’s available in your area here or by looking on the Deliveroo app.

You’ll have to order a minimum amount, usually £10, and there is a service fee of around 49p, and a £2.49 delivery fee unless your a Deliveroo Plus user.

Co-op also has a quick shop option at some stores, where you can order online for delivery or pick up within two hours.

You can see where this service is available online using your postcode and book a slot.

Asda

Asda does quick delivery through Uber Eats bringing you groceries in around 30 minutes.

It’s available on Uber Eats in more than 100 stores and you’ll pay around £3.99 for delivery and service fee on top, typically around 10% of the order cost.

You’ll find a choice of around 300 products on Uber Eats and you can search your postcode on the app to see if the service is available in your area.
