BEER drinkers can cash-in on a FREE pint this St Patrick’s Day.

Greene King is offering punters a free Guinness when they visit one of the chain’s pubs over the lucky weekend.

St Patrick’s Day is on March 17, and this year it falls on a Thursday.

Pints of Guinness are traditionally knocked-back over the holiday to celebrate the Irish patron saint.

But to claim a free one, you’ll have to buy a carvery dinner at a Greene King pub.

That’s great news if you’re feeling a bit peckish on the day, but it does mean you have to fork out at least £7 (the average cost of a standard carvery at the chain) to cash-in on the free booze.

Normally a pint of the Irish Stout beer would cost around £4.25, but it can vary between branches.

So if you weren’t planning on filling up on food you’d actually lose almost £3 by buying a meal JUST to cash in on the free drink.

How do I get a FREE Guinness?

Despite the holiday lasting only one day, you can actually claim the freebie at any point over the weekend.

It’s valid from March 17 through to March 20.

You’ll only be able to claim the free Guinness from a Greene King pub, but keep in mind that not all sites will be taking part.

You can check whether your local is offering the freebie on the Greene King website though.

Type in your postcode to see if the pub near you is offering the deal, and sign up to the email club to claim.

You’ll be sent a voucher code that you’ll need to have with you on the day to show to your server.

You have to sign up by March 15 to get your code in time.

It’s only valid for one beer and it could be subject to availability at your local chain.

Plus, you have to have ordered the all important carvery to go with it.

You can choose between a standard or large carvery though, to claim.

Are any other pubs offering lucky freebies?

We don’t know yet if any other pubs will be joining Greene King in offering boozy offers over the St Patrick’s weekend, but we’ll update this story once we know more.

Wetherspoons has confirmed to The Sun that it’s not offering any freebies on the day though.

It doesn’t mean Greene King is the only chain getting customers in the lucky spirit – McDonald’s has brought back its Shamrock Shake – but sadly it’s only available across the pond for now.

The pub chain has also launched an offer that includes free brekkie too.

And the St Patrick’s Day offer won’t be the first time the pub giant has offered out free pints – punters who burst into song before Christmas could claim a freebie too.
