HOW much cash you can withdraw from an ATM will depend on the branch and the bank you’re using.

Your own account balance is a key factor too, and some banks have higher limits on withdrawals than others.

There are around 53,000 ATMs in the UK currently and most withdrawals come from free-to-use machines – though it’s important to check as some will charge you.

But more Brits are inclined to use cards for payments nowadays, particularly after being discouraged from paying with cash during the pandemic and a general decline in cash sales.

Cash use has plummeted as people turned to paying in a more Covid-secure way, even now that restrictions have mostly lifted.

Shoppers can now make contactless card payments of up to £100 after a rule change rolled out on October 15.

So with more freedom to make larger payments without the need for cash, it could decline further.

But if you do still need to withdraw notes, here’s how much you can get out from each bank each day on cash machines found, and how it compares to withdrawing your money over the counter.

You can withdraw up to £500 a day from a cash machine.

Barclays

The bank says there’s no limit to how much money you can withdraw over the counter in its branches as long as you’ve got enough in your account.

You might have to give the bank a day’s notice if it’s over £2,000 though, so the bank can check it has enough to give you.

Otherwise customers with personal current accounts can take out up to £300 per day from an ATM, while Premier and Platinum accounts can take out up to £1,000 per day.

Barclays Business accounts can take out up to £750 per day and BarclayPlus accountholders can withdraw up to £50 per day.
