TWO GAMING systems that have always competed with each other are the Xbox and PlayStation.
On March 29, 2022, Sony announced its new subscription service PlayStation Plus.
How do I get PlayStation Plus?
In competition with the Xbox Game Pass, the new PlayStation Plus three-tier subscription service includes over 700 games.
The three tiers include PlayStation Plus Essential, PlayStation Plus Extra, and PlayStation Plus Premium.
Gamers who purchase the highest tier of the service will have dozens of retro games available for play.
Those with PS Now memberships will be moved to the Premium tier of PlayStation Plus with no extra charge.
Users can access the new PlayStation Plus at its release by subscribing via the PlayStation website or directly from their console.
What do the different tiers include?
Those with PlayStation Plus Premium will have over 700 games for streaming or download, also available to stream via PC (personal computer).
PlayStation Plus will continuously change the game library.
According to the service, any PS3 games will be available for streaming only, while PS1, PS2, and PSP games will come with both download and streaming options.
The Premium tier comes in at $17.99 per month or $119.99 per year.
PlayStation Plus Essential is the original PS Plus, with no price changes and two monthly downloadable games.
The Extra tier includes everything from Essential and around 400 PS4 and PS5 games available for download.
PlayStation Plus Extra will cost $14.99 per month or $99.99 per year.
When does the new PlayStation Plus launch?
According to PlayStation, the new subscription service will launch in June 2022.
“At launch, we plan to include titles such as Death Stranding, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Mortal Kombat 11, and Returnal,” said a statement from the company.
“In the June timeframe, we’ll begin with an initial launch in several markets in Asia, followed by North America, Europe, and the rest of the world where PlayStation Plus is offered.”
They continued: “We aim to have most PlayStation Network territories live with our new PlayStation Plus game subscription service by the end of the first half of 2022.”
