HARIBO-lovers have been left with a bad taste in their mouth – after the brand axed an “elite” sweet.

The Starmix-famed confectioner discontinued packets of Smurfs a number of years ago.

The strawberry and raspberry-flavoured gummies – inspired by the blue mushroom dwellers – were a hit with fans of the 80s cartoon.

And one user demanded their return after failing to find any of the packets in UK stores.

Addressing Haribo on X, they said: “Bring back the smurf haribos they were elite how dare you even get rid of them in the first place.”

But the German sweet maker hit back dashing the Smurf-lover’s dreams.

They said: “Although we don’t have any plans to bring back Smurfs at the moment, we will share your comments with our team so they know you’re missing them!”

Haribo fans were left-gobsmacked this year after discovering the true meaning of the name.

The brand was founded by Hans Riegel, from Bonn in Germany, in 1920.

It’s name is an acronym of the first two letters of “Hans”, “Riegel” and “Bonn”.

It comes as it was revealed green Haribo Goldbears are in fact strawberry-flavoured – not apple or lime that many think it is.

There are five flavours of Goldbears: orange, strawberry, pineapple, lemon and raspberry.
