Here’s ways to save . . .

DIY BURGERS: Supermarkets will charge you more for pre-marinated BBQ meat packs, with tempting offers.

Instead, create your own delicious burgers, meatballs and kebabs.

Pick up the BBQ meat pack from Iceland for a fiver — it includes eight sausages, eight burgers and eight pork steaks — and then add tasty dry rubs and marinades from Tesco’s Fire Pit BBQ range, all £1.

DITCH DISPOSABLES: Splashing out on a throwaway barbecue every time the sun comes out could be costing you more than you realise. Instead, opt for a portable, reusable charcoal option such as the Kembla from B&Q, usually £23 but now £11.50. To go with it, pick up a three-pack of metal BBQ utensils for just £1.50 at Wilko.

EAT AND DRINK IN STYLE: Paper plates and plastic cutlery mean no washing-up to do — but don’t fork out a lot, as you’ll only bin them afterward. Poundland has its own range of BBQ accessories, also including reusable, foldable drink cartons and wipe-clean tablecloths.

BANISH BONELESS: Instead of pricey, boneless cuts of chicken, opt for wings, thighs and drumsticks. Or swap fresh for frozen. Get 1.1kg of chicken thighs in Asda’s frozen section for £3, as opposed to £4.99 for a kilo of fresh, boneless thighs.

EAT YOUR GREENS: Make sure you have veggie and vegan options, because so many people are now eating a plant-based diet. Head to The Co-op which has a great-value Gro range — get two veggie burgers for just £1.10.

BUNS AWAY: When it comes to buns and rolls, buy bigger, freeze, keep for the next BBQ, and you’ll always save money. Lidl hot-dog and burger buns are currently 69p per pack so it’s worth stocking up now.
