NHS leader warns soaring infections in north of England will bring 30% more patients than at pandemic peak

Hospitals outside London could end up treating even more Covid patients than at the peak of the pandemic last January, a senior NHS leader has warned.

Soaring infection rates in the north of England mean that one NHS trust expects to have 30% more Covid cases next week than it had at the previous peak in cases last January, the chief executive of NHS Providers said.
