Experts are urging Brits to avoid a popular trick at all costs and warn of “serious danger”.

Recently, a DIY terracotta heater has gone viral online for producing enough heat to warm a house without using electricity or gas.
The terracotta pot is placed upside down over lit candles and the heat blasts through.
But the popular hack can pose some serious danger to safety, warns a heating expert.

Terracotta pots might easily shatter or explode due to the exposure to high temperatures which they aren’t designed to withstand.
The shattering and explosion can lead to serious burns, explains Storer.
The melted wax from the candles used in the heater also raises concerns of a fire hazard.
If the pot falls and the candles are tipped over, the melted wax might come into contact with flammable materials.

It could cause a fire, putting people’s lives and properties at risk.
Storer also highlights the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning which can occur as a result of inadequate ventilation for the candles.
When candles burn in an enclosed space like under a terracotta pot, they consume oxygen and produce carbon monoxide, which can be trapped and accumulate to dangerous levels.
Carbon monoxide is a colourless, odourless gas that can be lethal in high concentrations.
Storer recommends alternative, safer options to keep your home warm this winter.
“One of the most effective ways to keep your home warm is by ensuring it’s well-insulated,” she said.
She advices Brits to ensure that gaps around doors and windows are sealed.
She also suggests adding insulation to your attic or using thermal curtains.
These measures will reduce any need for additional heating sources or unsafe practices.
She also added: “Regularly bleeding your radiators can significantly improve heating in your home.

“Trapped air in the heating system can prevent hot water from circulating effectively.
“By bleeding your radiators, you release this air, allowing the radiator to heat up properly.”
