A FOOTBALL legend manager has found himself embroiled in a furious row over plans for a £7million seaside mansion.

Former Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp is at war with his local council over hopes to transform an Italianate waterside mansion in Britain‘s richest resort.

The football veteran and The Sun columnist has long been among the most famous locals in the Dorset town dubbed “Millionaire’s Row”.

The ex-Premier League manager and his wife Sandra have now bought a new £7million home in Dorset, MailOnline says.

But planning chiefs have reportedly criticised an application for the six-bedroom detached house with a luxury three-storey villa.

They say proposals for the property overlooking Poole Harbour and promising “a traditional Italianate architectural style” are “overwhelming” and “disjointed”.

Documents suggest Redknapp has been offering compromises, such as removing bedroom windows, lowering the roof and redesigning the front door and boat house.

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council said the preferred material for windows and doors should be timber.

But Redknapp’s architects Anders Roberts Cheer hit back to say this would be “inappropriate in this exposed location”.

Harry and Sandra have owned homes in Sandbanks and nearby Poole for at least 26 years, including a seaside property in Poole’s Lilliput suburb they bought in 1997 for £500,000 – before later selling it for £2.6million.

They paid £3million for a mock-Tudor mansion overlooking the entrance to Sandbanks harbour in 2001, selling it for £6.9million 14 years later and moving to a five-bedroom £4million mansion nearby.

The couple are thought to have later moved two years ago to a £5million eco-mansion which they had built in Poole.

A design and access statement for the new property calls it “sensitively designed” and “a carefully balanced and attractive infill development which respects the character of the area”.

Redknapp was born in Poplar in east London and played for West Ham United in the 1960s but has put down roots on the South Coast since joining Bournemouth in 1972 then becoming their manager.

He has also been in charge of Portsmouth and Southampton, and when Spurs boss he would travel from Sandbanks to North London in a car driven by assistant manager Kevin Bond.

Harry and Sandra have two children, Mark and ex-Liverpool midfielder and now Sky Sports pundit Jamie.

Harry was voted King of the Jungle in I’m A Celebrity 2018, beating Emily Atack and John Barrowman.

In his latest Sun column, he described his shock at England captain Harry Kane joining Germany‘s Bundesliga champs Bayern Munich.

Meanwhile, fuming residents in Sandbanks have slammed the proposed development of newbuilds they say could force locals out.

Locals have also complained about the affluent suburb being ruined by thuggish kids vandalising beach huts and smashing glass bottles.
