Gusbourne is the latest English winemaker to toast booming demand after revenues jumped last year.

The producer, which owns vineyards in Kent and West Sussex, said sales rose 48 per cent to around £6.2million last year.

Tipples such as Gusbourne’s recently launched Fifty One Degrees North luxury sparkling wine helped to drive business.

Gusbourne also bought an additional 55 hectares of land, bringing the total to 196 hectares.

Most of this will be planted with vineyards over the next few years.

Despite the ‘challenging macro-environmental backdrop’, chief executive Charlie Holland said there was ‘significant consumer demand’ for his products.

‘The quality of Gusbourne’s wines continue to gain praise and critical recognition, further cementing our excellent reputation,’ he said.

More hotels and restaurants have added English sparkling wine to menus as it grows in popularity, with Gusbourne’s UK trade sales hitting £3million.

Last week, Chapel Down said exports of its wine increased 164 per cent, with consumers’ thirst for English sparkling wine growing overseas.
