GTA+ was then expanded in 2023 to let users access other popular titles from Rockstar’s library.

This applied to both console and mobile devices and included the award-winning Red Dead Redemption.

The initial price at launch was £4.99 in the UK and $5.99 in the US with annual or month-by-month payment options, which it remained until this year.

Now, though, Rockstar has announced a significant price rise.

Under the new terms, GTA+ will cost Brits £6.99 and Americans $7.99.

That amounts to a 40% hike in the UK and 33% stateside.

The changes will apply across both PlayStation and Xbox stores.

It mirrors similar rises for comparable services from other developers.

Just this month, gaming giant EA increased the annual EA Play subscription from £19.99 to £35.99.

Likewise, Microsoft bumped up the cost of Xbox Game Passes last year, shortly before Sony did the same for PlayStation Plus.

However, Rockstar has made an attempt to sweeten the deal for customers as they have also increased the amount on offer under the GTA+ membership.

In addition to access to other major titles, subscribers will also receive one million units of the in-game currency GTA$ to use online every month between April and August 2024.

The price rises will take effect immediately for new sign-ups but will be delayed for existing members until June 11.

The news comes ahead of the release of GTA 6, which will be the first major release in the franchise, which debuted way back in 1997, in more than ten years.

Slated to be sent out to stores in 2025, the title will be the eighth main instalment in the series and the first since 2013’s GTA V.
