GREGGS fans are furious that the bakery has scrapped its vegan Sausage, Bean and CheeZe melt to make room for its plant-based festive bake.

The high street chain has temporarily removed the vegan-friendly version of its popular meaty melt just months after launching it in August.

Greggs said it axed the fan favourite in order to make room for its vegan festive bake, which is launching on the same day as the original version on November 4.

But some customers weren’t happy about the decision and questioned why both options couldn’t be on the menu at the same time.

One customer said on Twitter: “Why is it illegal for vegans to have more than one or two options at a time at different places.

“Apparently the Greggs vegan bean melt is being discontinued, Costa’s vegan toastie got booted for the facon roll… why can’t we have more than one choice?”

Another wrote: “I went into Greggs earlier and there were no Vegan Sausage Cheeze and Bean melts.

“The member of staff said they’d been discontinued. Please say it isn’t so.”

A Greggs fan said: “If Greggs have stopped the vegan cheeze and bean melt in replace of the festive one I’ll cry.

“Why can’t vegans have more than one thing, we already had the steak bake snatched from us.”

Another added “I asked yesterday in a store and he said it was discontinued but not to worry as something new was coming out soon so looks like it.

“Why can’t vegans have more than two hot options at one time?”

In response, Greggs assured disappointed customers that the melt will return.

“Our Vegan Sausage Bean & CheeZe Melt is having a little break to make way for our new Vegan Festive Bake. Don’t worry though, it will be back!” the brand said in a Tweet.

The Sun has contacted Greggs for further comment.

The bakery discontinued the vegan steak bake earlier this year, but has kept its popular vegan sausage roll on the menu since it launched in 2019.
