The Government is looking at plans to sell commuters books of single-journey train tickets for whenever they need to travel to the office.

A rising number of firms in London and other cities are telling staff they will no longer need to travel to the office five days a week after the pandemic.

The Government asked consultants at KPMG and the Rail Delivery Group to find out what kind of ticketing system would work for such employees.
Sources said two options were being studied in detail: a flexible season ticket allowing passengers to vary how many days a week they use them and the ‘carnet’ option.
A rail industry source said: ‘The Government and industry are keen not to rush into new systems before some normality returns and we have a clearer view on how often people will travel.’
The Department for Transport said it was ‘working to give commuters more flexibility and better value’.
