Google Chrome is one of the world’s most popular web browsers.

More than 2.65billion people use the app – so any hackable bug needs to be squashed immediately.

Google has pushed out an update that needs to be installed urgently.

It fixes a “critical” bug that Google says – as well as a second bug already being exploited by hackers.

“Google is aware of reports that an exploit…exists in the wild,” the tech titan said in a blog post.

The update also fixes a further four security bugs that are ranked as “high” – not quite critical, but good to fix nonetheless.

Google says the main bug was reported by cyber-expert Sergei Glazunov on October 26 this year.

Three of the bugs were flagged in October and November, while the fifth was highlighted just five days ago.

Hackers can use these bugs to run code on your machine.

That means they could potentially take over parts of your PC or Mac – hijacking your online life.

If you haven’t updated Google Chrome recently, you should do so as soon as possible.

How to update Google Chrome

Simply go into Settings, then navigate to Help and then About Google Chrome.

You can also type chrome://settings/help in to the URL bar to navigate to the page.

If you want to check that you’re using the latest Chrome version, you can compare version numbers.

The latest Chrome update on desktop is 96.0.4664.110.

It’s important to update Google Chrome regularly to stay ahead of the hackers.

Updating to install new security fixes is one of the best ways to avoid being hacked.

It also means you get the latest features first, so it’s generally a good idea to install new Google Chrome updates as soon as they’re available.
