The change was detailed by the tech giant in a new blog post on Tuesday, November 28.

“Today, we’re excited to introduce the latest series of changes that accelerate user productivity across new views in Drive,” Google writes.

The feature is called Home and will help to streamline Drive’s homepage.

“Home makes it easier and faster for you to find files that matter most,” Google added.

One of the changes includes personalized file and folder suggestions with machine learning algorithms.

This can help users get started quickly and “utilize a variety of signals, such as what files or folders you’ve recently opened, shared or edited,” Google noted.

Another change includes Filter chips, which can narrow down your search and find relevant files faster across Drive.

This “makes it easy to find suggested files by type, people, modified date or the location,” Google explained.

Lastly, users will see a more modern design inline thanks to Google Material Design 3.

The change began rolling out on November 28 and will continue into January.

Google did note that users don’t have to opt for the new look and can keep their standard view by heading to Settings in My Drive.

OTHER CHANGES

Google has been implementing a number of changes to its Drive platform lately – including Gmail.

In September, the company announced that it would be killing Gmail’s Basic HTML view.

The basic HTML view is a stripped-down version of Gmail.

It was designed for users with slower internet connections or older devices.

However, Google says that the Basic HTML view is no longer necessary.

The main reasoning behind this is that most devices now have fast internet connections and can support the total Gmail experience.

Google revealed that the unexpected change will take place in January 2024.

“After this date, Gmail automatically changes to Standard view,” Google said on its support page.
