There are several signs that mean a criminal has infiltrated your account.

If someone is secretly “raiding” your Google account, it’s extremely dangerous.

Your email account likely contains huge amounts of personal information.

And you likely use it to sign in to other services.

This could potentially allow criminals to break in to your other logins, defraud you, access your bank, and even extort you.

It’s extremely important that you maintain full control of your Google account at all times.

Thankfully there are some warning signs that you need to look out for, according to Google.

They can reveal if someone has secretly invaded your Google account.

Unfamiliar changes

For a start, you need to look out for “unfamiliar changes to critical security settings”.

Google will usually alert you when this happens – and you can find a log of these changes in your account settings.

Look for changes to your recovery phone number, recover email address, alternate email addresses, the name on your Google account, or your security question.

Also, be very wary if two-step verification was turned on or off without your knowledge.

Financial activity

Similarly, you need to also look out for a host of unauthorized financial activity.

Look for purchases that you don’t recognize on Google Play.

And be wary if payment info that you don’t recognize is set up on your Google Chrome app.

Unusual activity notifications

Finally, you need to be on high alert for unusual activity notifications.

This might be an unusual sign-in or new device on your account.

You may receive notifications about changes to your username, password or security settings that you didn’t authorize.

And be on the look out for a red bar at the top of your screen that says “We’ve detected suspicious activity on your account”.

If you spot any of these warning signs, you must lock down your account as soon as possible.

Go into your account page and kick out unrecognized devices, end suspicious sessions, and change your password to something strong and unique.

Set up two-factor verification if you don’t have it, so a code is required when you log in.
