AMAZON Fire Stick users are just realising they don’t have to splurge on a new remote when replacing their broken controllers.

Just like laptops, tablets and smartphones, consumers can buy refurbished Fire TV Sticks for a fraction of the original cost.

Remotes on refurb site My Memory are going for as little as £8.99.

That’s about £21 less than buying a brand new remote directly from Amazon.

“Bought two of these from MyMemory recently, both came as new and unmarked with shrink wrap still on them. Excellent price,” one reviewer wrote on HotUKDeals, where the deal was being advertised.

On the My Memory site, another reviewer wrote: “Excellent service and goods as described.

“The price was also good. Both remotes worked after set up. Would recommend to anyone.”

However, like with any refurbished product, customers should approach with a dose of caution.

There are some reviews that claim their refurbished remote failed to pair with their TV, and therefore had to be returned.

How to pair your Amazon Fire Stick

Setting up your Fire TV Stick is generally quite easy, but it’s not always plain sailing, and there may be some difficulties connecting.

First you should check that the batteries, USB port, and HDMI plug are all in working order.

Then you should check for any outstanding software updates.

From there, you can give YouTuber and Fire Stick expert YoTuPi’s trick a try.

“To fix this problem you need to go to Settings. Go to equipment control,” YoTuPi writes in the description of his YouTube video tackling the Fire Stick connection issue.

You then need to click on Equipment and then press TV so the Fire TV Stick can be detected.

“Select yes. Press the power button on your Fire TV remote to turn off the TV,” YoTuPi continued.

“Then press the power button again to turn on your TV.”

You’ll then see a message asking if the TV did turn on and off when you clicked the power button.

If the answer is yes, your remote has been updated.

Amazon also has advice for users who are struggling to pair their Fire TV Stick remote during setup.

“If your remote doesn’t pair automatically, press the Home button until “Press to start” appears on-screen,” Amazon says.

This can take about 10 seconds to load so don’t worry if it doesn’t appear right away.

If all else fails and the troubleshooting steps don’t resolve the issue, contact Amazon for technical support.

Each product is tested, cleaned and repaired before it’s sold.

Many refurbished products may actually be unused customer returns that are effectively ‘new’.

While others may be defective products that were returned under warranty, and eventually resold after repairs.

My Memory has a solid 4.4 star rating on Trustpilot from nearly 9,000 reviews.
