DURING September’s Nintendo Direct it was announced that Nintendo 64 fan favourite, GoldenEye 007, will be making a comeback on modern consoles.

As one of the best FPS games of all-time — both in single-player and with its groundbreaking multiplayer mode — fans are pleased to see its return.

The Xbox version will feature updated graphics.

However, there are two separate versions launching for Xbox Game Pass and Nintendo’s own subscription service.

The Nintendo Switch version will run through the Switch Online Expansion Pass, running on an N64 emulator.

This means that it is the original version of the N64 game.

It will also feature the game’s original multiplayer mode that was highly praised back when the game was released.

However, despite the multiplayer now being accessible to people online, it will still show in split-screen like the original N64 release.

There is an alternate version releasing for Xbox, but it isn’t the N64 original.

Instead, it is a remastered version featuring achievements, 4K resolution, and a smoother framerate.

This last one is important, as the original game suffered from lagging issues.

One of the game’s original bugbears, its unwieldy controls, will also be getting an update to bring the game into the 21st century.

This includes dual analogue stick support, which wasn’t available back on the N64, a console with only one stick in the centre of the controller.

Despite all of these bonuses, there is one thing that the Xbox release will be missing compared to the Nintendo Switch version.

All of the game’s multiplayer modes, including the one-hit kill mode, and levels with overpowered super weapons, will not be available on Xbox.

This has left fans torn between the improved Xbox version and the Switch’s version with the original iconic multiplayer.

Those with both subscription services can experience both and see which is better for themselves.
