And nursery provider Busy Bees, with 50 centres around the country, has openings for 700 people.

There are two apprentice roles in each of its nurseries and the company is hiring qualified and unqualified early-years professionals, plus catering staff.

Becca Phillips, 22, of Stevenage, Herts, joined as an apprentice and was able to complete her college course while working at a nursery.

Becca said: “You need to love children, enjoy playing with them and have lots of patience.

“Having a routine is key for children’s development, so being reliable is important.

“I’m six months into my Level 3 apprenticeship and love being able to work and learn at the same time.”

Sandy Silvester, director of operations for Busy Bees education and training, said: “From their first day on the job, our early years practitioners play a key role in ensuring our children are happy, safe and having fun as they learn and play.

“This is a great opportunity for anyone who is dedicated to caring for children and will always put the child’s happiness at the heart of everything they do.”

SCHOOLS are failing to promote green jobs, with 57 per cent of pupils not getting guidance.

But in a study from social mobility charity Speakers For Schools, four in ten children said they would research a firm’s environmental credentials before applying for a job.

Green Skills Week starts on Monday, connecting employers to students at 4,000 state schools.

Jason Elsom, of Speakers For Schools, said: “We must equip young people with the qualifications for the new jobs that will help us meet our climate ambitions.”

Ali Barker, Governor of HMP Wayland in Norfolk, said: “Officers play an essential role in changing the lives of those in custody.

“We need officers from all backgrounds to be positive role models.

“Not only will you learn new skills, you’ll be part of a supportive, hardworking and knowledgeable team.”

Busting stress at work

HALF of firms say they are still struggling to recruit, piling the pressure on remaining workers.

April is Stress Awareness Month.

She says: “Left unchecked, stress can quickly lead to wider problems in the workplace.”

  • WHAT WORKS? Giving staff control over their work should reduce stress, as they do things their way.
  • QUIETER WORKING. If appropriate, set up a quiet-working zone. If someone can feel stress rising, having somewhere for a few minutes of quiet can help.
  • WORK AS A UNIT. A mentality should be built on the idea of working together and chipping in when needed to help each other. Managers should get involved, too.
  • COMMUNICATION IS KEY. Talking about stress can limit the issue. If employees know what is expected from them, they will feel more confident to express concerns.
  • RELEASE ENDORPHINS. Exercise is one of the best ways to cut stress. Promote this at work with lunchtime or after-work exercise sessions.
  • ANONYMOUS FEEDBACK. Identify and erase the onset of stress. As some may feel uncomfortable coming forward, set up an anonymous feedback system.
