Fury over Sky Glass launch delays as customers ‘unable to buy’ new TV

WOULD-BE buyers of the new Sky Glass TV have complained about being unable to order the new telly.

The Sky Glass launched today as a way for Brits to watch Sky TV without needing a satellite dish.

Sky unveiled the 4K TV at a ritzy event last week, but customers have been left disappointed at being unable to buy it.

It’s a tempting off, with the Sky Glass TV starting from just £13 a month.

But there’s a big catch: you have to “register” to buy one – and it’s on a priority basis.

Sky says that only long-term customers will be able to pick one up in the very first instance.

“We’re prioritising sales of Sky Glass to our pre-registered Diamond & Platinum tier customers who’ve been with us for over 8 years,” Sky explained.

“But you won’t have to wait long. Register now and we’ll be in touch soon.”

Telly troubles

Sky customers flocked to Twitter to complain that they were unable to buy a Glass TV.

And even long-term Sky customers and registrants said they hadn’t received their invitations to make a purchase.

One user even vowed to ditch Sky and shop with rival Virgin instead.

“Hey Sky, I’m moving in to a new place on Monday & wanted Sky but can’t have a dish,” said one frustrated Twitter user.

“Sky Glass was my answer but as I can’t order, I’ll settle with Virgin.”

Another frustrated buyer said: “Hi I am a diamond customer who pre-registered for Sky Glass. Do you know when I may be contacted?

“I’ve had the holding email but feel I’m missing out.”

And one moaned: “I showed my interest in Sky Glass few weeks ago.

“I just phoned up, asked when I receive, could not tell me which is not helpful.

“I am gold I’ve been with Sky over three years, not sure I get one now which is disappointed.

“Sky was not helpful at all.”

One would-be buyer said: “Why didn’t you previously say that you’re prioritising Diamond & Platinum customers for Sky Glass before anyone else?

“How long are we going to have to wait realistically.”

Sky says it’s processing orders and is dealing with huge interest, which may explain the delays.

In a tweet, Sky’s customer support said: “We are experiencing a high demand for Sky Glass.

“And [we] are working our way through the Platinum and Diamond pre-registrations now.

“You will receive your invitation shortly.”

In a separate tweet, Sky said: “Due to the high demand we are seeing for Sky Glass there may be a delay in sending out your invitation.

“We are working our way through the pre-registrations and you will receive your invitation shortly.”

Sky was unable to confirm when general availability would be offered.
