FURIOUS Amazon shoppers claim the online retailer has been “removing” the new PlayStation 5 from their baskets after the sought-after console crashed other websites.

Amazon customers say the console kept disappearing from their virtual baskets despite them adding it while it was in stock.

John Lewis customers were told to ‘try again soon’ when trying to buy a PS5

The PlayStation 5 went on sale from 8am this morning, priced at around £450. Stock sold out almost instantly but Amazon released more of the consoles at around 1pm.

One person said: “Been refreshing my Amazon page every couple of seconds since midday trying to buy a PS5 only for it to disappear from my basket.

“And now some chancer is already re-selling one for £999! Thanks Amazon. What a waste of time and Prime membership!”

Another said: “Had one in my basket twice on amazon, both times lost it.”

The overwhelming demand also saw the console crash websites including Tesco, John Lewis and GAME.

At the height of the chaos, as many as 200,000 people were waiting in a virtual queue on the Currys PC World website.

To get its site back up, the retailer pushed back its 9am release of the console. It’s not clear when it will be restocked.

It comes after some customers claimed they were able to purchase a PS5 before 9am, only for the retailer to cancel their order. Currys PC World is yet to offer an explanation.

Both Tesco and John Lewis’ websites are back up and running but the retailers have sadly sold out of PS5s.

A notice on the John Lewis website earlier today read: “Sorry about the wait, please try again soon.

“It’s the much-anticipated launch of the new Sony Playstation 5 console so we’re busier than usual.”

Furious Playstation fans have been complaining on Twitter

When customers clicked on the pre-sale link on the Tesco website, a message read: “503. Service unavailable.”

GAME shoppers were still queuing to get on its website when The Sun checked shortly before 1.30pm. It’s unclear whether GAME still has consoles in stock.

Frustrated gamers have since taken to Twitter to complain about not being able to get their hands on the highly anticipated console.

One person said: “200,000 in the queue ahead of me WTH. I guess Currys PC World has more PS5s.”

Another person said: “Tesco what’s going on with the pre order site won’t let me add amount and keeps crashing?”

A third said: “I was sat there clicking next for a wholeeeeee 20 mins… ya’ll gotta give me the PS5 now man!”

Posting a picture of the queue on Currys PC World, another said: “I’m guessing this is the queue for the new PlayStation? John Lewis website is broken also. Great.”

A fourth person tweeted: “Logged on to the website, waiting for PS% to be available for order and to be kicked out AGAIN because your website is awful.

“This has happened for the first pre-order too. Completely regretting putting money on the Game card as now I am stuck buying from you.”

John Lewis confirmed it had sold out of the console shortly after 10am.

Currys PC World confirmed they won’t be selling any more today.
