MOST of Britain’s major supermarkets have made some major changes recently, including a shake-up of a loyalty scheme.

The likes of Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Asda have all brought in changes to their stories in recent weeks.

These range from tweaks to loyalty schemes, charges for items which used to be free and lower prices.

Here’s a round-up so you can see how your local supermarket has changed.

Tesco

Tesco has brought in a number of big changes recently.

The supermarket lost its appeal against a ruling it infringed Lidl over the use of its yellow circle on a blue background for its Clubcard Prices promotions.

Tesco has now had to change the design and it has started to rollout an updated version on its app.

The original design has now been replaced with a rectangle design with curved edges but the same yellow and blue colours remain.

Tesco has now launched a “Best of British” page on its website to help support local farmers.

Lastly, as part of  new trial, the supermarket chain has started charging 10p for hangers, in some of its UK stores.

While it said a small number of stores were taking part in the trial it did not reveal exact number or which stores they were.

Asda

Asda has revealed plans to offer an online prescription service and in stories in conjunction with Pharmacy2U.

Major supermarket makes big change to rules for afternoon shoppers across all 500 stores

Shoppers can currently manage their prescriptions online and order medicines for home delivery.

But soon they will be able to order prescriptions for collection at 232 Asda branches across the country.

Sainsbury’s

Sainsbury’s has launched new Low Everyday Prices on more than 1,000 products.

The items included range from PG Tips, Sensodyne toothpaste, Quaker Oats and washing powder.

Low Everyday Prices replaces the Price Lock campaign but the supermarket will still run its Aldi Price Match initiative and Nectar Prices.

Shoppers are advised to always compare goods on online shopping tools like Trolley.co.uk to ensure they get the lowest prices.

Morrisons

Morrisons is introducing a new loyalty scheme feature giving “hyper-personalised” offers to customers who use its More Card app.

“My Points Boosters” gives shoppers the chance to take on challenges – such as reaching certain spend milestones – based on their shopping patterns.

It is also expanding its quiet hours to run between 2pm and 3pm every Monday to Thursday.

Quiet hours already run between 9am and 10am on Saturdays and the first hour of trading on Sundays.

The supermarket is also rolling out new children’s trolleys and checkouts across more of its stores following a successful trial.

The child checkouts are supervised by a member of staff and kids are shown how to scan their shopping.

Aldi

Aldi has altered the packaging on its own-label toothbrushes in an attempt to cut down on plastic waste.

The plastic and card packaging has been replaced with a cardboard alternative on its two-packs of Dentitex Soft and Whitening toothbrushes.

The supermarket estimates the change will remove around 17 tonnes of plastic packaging a year.
