The move is designed to help customers find marked-down yellow sticker food items more easily.

Shoppers will be able to spot the change at 295 Tesco supermarkets across the UK.

Shoppers should look out for the reduced items with bold new signage that states “reduced in price, just as nice.”

Products that will be reduced include salads, meat, bread and sweet treats.

At the time, Tesco group quality, technical and sustainability director Claire Lorains said: “At Tesco, we have no time for food waste and we do everything we can to reduce it.

“Our customers are always on the lookout for great value food, and our rebranded ‘reduced in price, just as nice’ signage makes it easier than ever to spot a short-dated and top-quality bargain.”

What are yellow sticker discounts?

Supermarkets often reduce the price of food nearing its use-by date to shift stock and avoid food wastage.

The food is still good to eat, and in some cases, you can freeze what you buy so it will last that bit longer too.

But most importantly, you can often score a hefty discount – with some items marked down by as much as 80%.

You’ll normally find the goodies confined to their own shelf, in the bargain corner, or “sin bin” as many shoppers have dubbed it.

But a common theme in any store means each product will have the yellow sticker slapped on it, telling you its new reduced price.

How can I get the best discounts in the supermarket?

The only problem with yellow sticker bargains is that they’re so popular that they can be quickly snapped up.

To make your yellow sticker bargain hunt worth it, time your visit right.

Many shoppers say you should head to Morrisons first thing, for example, to get the best buys.

Meanwhile, one ex-M&S worker told us that you need to visit “later on in the day” to get the same results.

That’s because “the stuff that’s got today’s date, or that day’s date on it, will be cheap,” they explained to The Sun.

We revealed the best times to visit each supermarket to bag a yellow sticker bargain.

How to keep grocery costs down

  • Check labels for the price per item or by weight as you often get things cheaper if you go for bigger packs.
  • You can check where items are cheapest using Trolley.co.uk which compares the prices of 130,000 products across 14 major supermarkets.
  • The Latest Deals app also lets you search items and lets you compare prices at several supermarkets to see where it’s cheaper.
  • Look for store cupboard essentials such as rice, pasta, tinned tomatoes and dried herbs in the world food aisle as it’s often cheaper than in other sections.
  • Sign up for loyalty cards at all the supermarkets and take advantage of the offers they give access to.
  • Buy frozen fruit, veg, fish and meat as it’s often a lot cheaper than buying fresh.
  • Plan your meals before you shop and buy only what you need.
  • Buy own brand and budget ranges rather than the luxury versions some supermarkets offer.
